How I work

My practice is based on curiosity, empathy and trust. My methods are simple, backed by training and experience, and I deliver tangible, meaningful results. I’m a firm believer in the therapuetic capacity of nature, and the power of creativity as a catalyst for change and growth.

I'm here to listen, to understand and to create an environment that enables healing and growth. I will support you on your journey, and equip you with the tools and mindset you will need now, and as you move forward. I provide encouragement, reflections and accountability, but with an inclusive and gentle approach that free from shame or judgement.

I am an certified coach with the New Zealand Institue of Coaching, accredited by the ICF. I also hold a postgraduate diploma in Creative Arts Therapy, and I am currently on the path to becoming a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. My unique background and experience allows me to venture with my clients throughout their entire journey, helping them truly understand the how and the why behind where they currently are before supporting them to make a realistic and comprehensive plan to get to where they want to be.

Who do I work with?

I work with people of all ages and from all walks of life, but a lot of my clients do tend to come from a creative background - artists, musicians, designers, makers and creatives of all stripes. I have helped people who are looking for clarity or purpose, people who are stuck, unsure of the next step, what needs to change or even where to start.

Often, people contact me who are struggling with self-care and balance in their personal or professional lives. They may need a little help setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, or breaking unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Whatever the reason, there is a sense that the status quo isn’t working, and it is costing them their physical, mental or emotional health. Sometimes, they have been trying to live up to unhealthy or unrealistic expectations for so long that they have lost their authentic selves completely.

If any of that sounds familiar, then book in some time for a free, no obligation chat, and lets see if I can help.

What my clients are saying

"Lee has an uncanny way of asking difficult questions in order to get to the real issue at hand. I worked with Lee for professional development and he helped bring awareness to some underlying issues that had been affecting both my professional and personal life - that I had no idea existed before! While it was confronting, it really helped me build an understanding of aspects of myself that were holding me back. Since that conversation, I can see when my unhelpful tendencies arise and can use mindfulness skills that Lee also taught me to not let them control my behaviours and thoughts."
Anna - Product Design Manager

"Lee is a fantastic coach! When I am in a session with Lee, I feel fully supported, seen, and heard. He always seems to understand the bigger picture, even when I'm not sure of it myself! I feel forward momentum when I work with Lee, and he shows up with authenticity, humour, curiosity, and compassion"
Sandra - Mindfullness, Meditation and Yoga Teacher

"Lee is a natural coach, who has a strong compassion and kindness to see the best in people and to help them be the best they can.  His desire to understand, curiosity to learn, thoroughness, openness and non-judgemental style makes people feel supported and cared for.  I would highly recommend Lee to anyone who is looking for a trusted, supportive, and caring coach who can gently help people work through their issues and achieve their potential."

The power of nature

Humans have an ancient and deep-rooted connection with the natural world, and nature has an incredible ability to soothe and inspire us. Being outdoors, even for a short amount of time can have lasting positive effects. Even moderate exercise releases endorphins and other neurotransmitters that help lower stress and fatigue, reduce anxiety, boost our learning ability and increase our levels of self-awareness and self-control. Longer-term benefits include permanent, positive changes to our brain structure and chemistry, forging new neural pathways and connections in the hippocampus, the region of the brain associated with learning, memory and emotions.

I offer outdoor sessions suitable for all ages and physical abilities. You choose the location, activity and pace that works for you, whether seated on a bench in your local park, a walk on the beach or even kayaking in the harbour. The simple act of being outdoors improves our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and amplifies and enhances the results from our sessions.

How I can help

Coaching is a co-active process, with shared responsibility, and so ultimately the results you get out reflect the effort and energy that you put in, but for those willing to put in the hard work, the results can be profound:

  • Higher levels of self awareness and greater clarity around your own strengths, values and core beliefs.
  • A feeling of balance and alignment, with all the different areas of your life working together in harmony
  • Feeling calmer and more accepting, observing things as they are and letting go of the things that don’t matter
  • A stronger sense of belonging and deeper connection to the people you care about.
  • Clear, well defined boundaries and the ability to put yourself and your own needs first.
  • The confidence to speak up and trust your gut, make those tough decisions and believe in yourself
  • Developing greater levels of empathy and trust, allowing your to work more cohesively & collaboratively with others
  • Recognising your own strengths & motivations, appreciating yourself and celebrating your successes
  • A sense of purpose and direction; knowing where you want to go and how you can get there
  • Increased resiliience and the courage to stand up for yourself and the things that are important to you

What to expect

No obligation, no pressure

I offer free introductory chats to anyone interested in working with me. No cost, no time limit, and no obligation. It’s an opportunity to get to know each other, for me to find out more about how I may be able to help, and to answer any questions you might have. This is super important, because finding a good fit with someone who understands you, and who you like and trust is essential in getting the results or outcome you deserve.

Following on from this initial chat, if you’d like to go ahead and work together, then we can find a time that works for you and book in your first session.

A typical session

I run sessions in person, over the phone or via video calls. My preference is in-person. I have a calm, light-filled practice space in Parnell, or we can take the session outdoors. I find in-person sessions allow for a deeper connection and more effective results, but we can go with whatever format works for you.

Most sessions are usually an hour long, but can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual or the location or context of the session. For example, an outdoor nature-based session will often be longer, determined by the length of a walking trail. Sessions can be short-term, as often as needed or on a regular basis.

Pricing

Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, my rates are flexible, with discounts and payment plans available. I also keep a couple of weekly slots free for pro-bono or pay-what-you-can clients. I believe that anyone should be able to get the help they need, regardless of their financial situation or income. If you want to work with me but aren’t sure how you can afford it, please get in touch, there’s almost always a way to make it work.

So, with that in mind, my standard rate is $150 per hour. While there is no minimum number of sessions, experience has shown that one session often isn’t enough time to really get into the details or to make any meaningful or lasting change. For that reason, I usually recommend 4-6 sessions to see real results, and so to incentivise commitment, I offer discounts for anyone booking multiple sessions together, and we can discuss this during our initial chat.

Get in touch

The simplest way to see if me and my practice is the right fit for you is to book some time for a quick chat. No obligation, no pressure, and no charge.

Alternatively you can email me or call me - if I’m not able to answer right now i’ll call you back as soon as I can.
